This necessitated his being left behind in hospital when the Group evacuated to Australia in FEB. LTC Tharp does not list him among the AAF members who were left at Singosari/Surabaja with E Battery. However, he is recorded by a number of sources as being liberated from the Mukden Manchuria Officers camp, so it is obvious that he was taken as a POW with E Battery.
